MANILA — Rains are expected to affect most parts of the Philippines on Friday as the northeast monsoon, a shear line, and prevailing easterlies influence the country’s weather, PAGASA said.

The weather bureau noted that the shear line will produce cloudy conditions with scattered rainfall and isolated thunderstorms over Western Visayas and parts of Bicol and Mimaropa, including Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, Palawan, and Northern Samar.

PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy downpours could trigger flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, the amihan will continue to dominate weather conditions in Metro Manila, Northern and Central Luzon, Calabarzon, the Cordillera region, Cagayan Valley, and the remaining areas of Mimaropa and Bicol.

These areas will experience cloudy skies with rains, posing similar risks in low-lying and mountainous terrain.

Light rains under cloudy skies are forecast over the Ilocos region, though PAGASA said the impact of the monsoon there is expected to be minimal.

The rest of the country will likely experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies, with PAGASA cautioning against possible flooding and landslides during severe weather events. Strong to gale-force winds will affect Northern Luzon, generating rough to very rough sea conditions.

Other parts of Luzon will have moderate to strong winds, while areas outside Luzon will see generally light to moderate winds and calmer coastal waters.
