MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast isolated rain showers and thunderstorms across the country on Saturday, with no major weather system directly affecting the Philippines.
According to PAGASA’s 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the prevailing easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies over Cagayan Valley, the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Aurora, Quezon, and Dinagat Islands, accompanied by isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are likewise expected to experience generally fair weather throughout the day, although localized thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon or evening.
Weather specialists warned that while these rain showers will be isolated, they may still produce intense rainfall over short periods, potentially causing flash floods or landslides in vulnerable communities.
Winds throughout the country will remain light to moderate, with slight to moderate sea conditions expected over the country’s coastal waters.
Meanwhile, PAGASA reported that Super Typhoon Bavi continues to intensify over the Pacific Ocean while remaining outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
As of 3 a.m., the cyclone was located about 2,985 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of 195 kph, gustiness of up to 240 kph, and moving westward at 15 kph.
Authorities emphasized that the typhoon currently poses no immediate threat to the country, but its movement and strength will continue to be monitored in the coming days.
