MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confirmed that the service firearm used in the deadly shooting at a school in Tacloban City was issued to a female police officer currently assigned to the Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas (PRO-8).
During a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City, PNP spokesperson P/Col. Allen Rae Co said the officer is now under investigation after authorities established that her 9mm Glock pistol was used by her 14-year-old nephew in the attack.
According to Co, the policewoman may face administrative and criminal charges for allegedly failing to properly secure and safeguard her issued firearm.
Investigators also recovered 40 spent shell casings from the crime scene, indicating the intensity of the shooting. Authorities said the 14-year-old suspect allegedly changed magazines while carrying out the attack.
Meanwhile, a second suspect, aged 15, reportedly used a .38-caliber revolver registered to a security agency based in Cebu City.
The shooting occurred inside San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, resulting in the deaths of three students and injuries to seven others.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the incident and establish the circumstances that led to the attack. ia/
