MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan — Former President and Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo joined Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando and Malolos City Mayor Christian D. Natividad in offering flowers at the monument of Dr. José Rizal during commemorations marking the 165th birth anniversary of the national hero held at the Casa Real Shrine on Thursday, June 19.
The ceremonial tribute formed part of local observances honoring Rizal’s legacy, with provincial and city officials paying respects at the historic site in Malolos City.
Governor Fernando underscored Rizal’s continuing relevance in modern society, citing the national hero’s steadfast commitment to truth and accountability.

In his message, he emphasized that Rizal would have resisted misinformation and spoken out against corruption and social issues that hinder national development.
“If Rizal were alive today, he would not allow misinformation to prevail over truth. He would not remain silent in the face of corruption and the problems that hinder the progress of our society,” Fernando said.
Mayor Natividad also welcomed Arroyo during her visit, alongside city government officials, expressing appreciation for her participation in the commemorative activity.
Arroyo’s presence was likewise noted in connection with earlier developments involving the land where the Malolos City Hall currently stands, which officials said was secured as city property through efforts during her administration.
The event highlighted continued collaboration among national and local leaders in honoring Rizal’s legacy and reinforcing civic values rooted in patriotism and public service.
