MANILA — The Senate will formally convene as an impeachment court on Monday at 3:00 p.m., Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano confirmed, as proceedings move forward against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Cayetano sent a notice to all senators, directing them to attend the session wearing their impeachment robes in keeping with protocol.

“The Senate shall convene as an impeachment court on 18 May 2026 at 3 p.m. in accordance with the applicable rules and procedure. You are hereby requested to be present at the session hall on the said date and time in observance of the solemnity of the proceedings and pursuant to the Senate rules of procedure impeachment trial,” the letter read.

According to Cayetano, majority senators have agreed to retain the same procedural rules used in earlier impeachment cases.

He added that the articles of impeachment have already been distributed to all 23 senators.

He rejected allegations linking leadership changes to any attempt to delay the trial.
